baseball mama bootcamp
Pay Attention!
Run or Walk with a Buddy!

Last night, my good friend, Amanda and I were walking around the loop where our sons play baseball. We have done this a few times before. We actually call it "Baseball Mommy Bootcamp!" Our other partner in crime wasn't there (our fault because we should have told her that we were going to go early before the game.)

As we walked the loop, we saw an older man wearing a neon vest like he was a runner, but he was walking really slowly, and after I thought about it, I remembered that he wasn't even walking the path. It was odd. We did comment to each other about it. We walked around again, and we saw him. Still no big deal. I actually felt bad because I thought to myself, "At least he is here. He may not be working hard, but hey, he's here!"

This is us after our workout and the craziness! Glad to be done!
On our third and last loop, we saw him up ahead of us, and he turned to walk in the other direction. When he did this, we noticed that he had manipulated his shorts so that we could see his... okay I don't want to call it a butt or bottom, because that it was too gross to be called that. It was disgusting. We could see his backside. He walked a few steps and turned around and said, "Hi Ladies!" in a VERY creepy, knowing voice. We kept walking, and after a few steps, I think it hit us what happened. This was not a mistake. He wanted us to see his backside and he wanted us to know that he was wearing bikini black underwear that may have even been panties.

The more we discussed it, the worse we felt about it. We just felt icky!  Luckily, we were together and it wasn't dark yet (thank you Daylight Savings Time!) We immediately told Amanda's husband, who went looking for him. He didn't find him. Looking back, we should have called the police. This man was truly a predator, and I will keep my eyes open for him, and I will call the police if I see him.

It was really eye opening. There are people who are so crazy out there. It's important that we don't take our safety for granted. If you run alone, pay attention. Don't run alone in the dark. Keep your kids near you when they are at parks. Bad people are out there waiting for us good people to slip up.

What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you when you didn't expect it? Comment below.

  2. There are a lot of sick people out there! I had something happen to me as a kid and since then I am super paranoid. Like when Zoe and I went on our hike today I took a box cutter because I knew parts of the trail go pretty far back into the wood and I am easy prey since I don't hear well. Unfortunately, I look at most people especially men that I come across at the enemy and I proceed with extreme caution. Glad that you ladies are safe and thank you for sharing! You are Awesome!!!

    2. Everything happens for a reason ;-) No need to be sorry I grew from the experience. It certainly has kept me more protective though especially of my little bear cub lol. Don't mess with this mama bear ha ha ha ha I am linking up to this post in tomorrows blog! xoxoxox I probably should get some mace too, but the box cutter works too ;-) I downloaded the app Life360 on my phone. It not only tells me where sexual predators live, but what they look like and I can notify my family of my where abouts or if I am in danger. It is a pretty cool app! You should check it out!!!

  3. I had been approached by a guy in his car while out running on one of our "wine country" roads..I am very familiar with the area and feel pretty safe, however this day I remember running past the car {he was pulled over having lunch near a local winery} and others were out there also eating at benches...I just happen to run and smile at people when passing and I guess he thought he would find me. In the on-coming direction towards me a car approached and slowed down and the passenger window came down, I just figured someone was stopping to ask for directions to one of the wineries in the area so I slowed, the guy leaned over the passenger seat and said he had to find me to tell me how beautiful I was....Right away I threw my hands up waving him on and shouted No No No...and kept going quickly...About a month after that incident I was walking my dog on the Plaza in town, and window shopping when a guy game towards me and right up to me...saying "I knew it, I knew it was you when I passed you, I had to turn around and get out of my car to find you"...."you are so beautiful"....I walked so fast passed him and just shook my head no. I got to the corner and looked back and he just vanished! SO creepy. I actually recognized the car at the corner where I was standing and it was empty...SO I have no idea were he disappeared to and I headed straight for my car and left. Called my hubby told him and did not go straight home just in case. People are so creepy you just never know..

    3. Well you'd better get some mace too! Joanna just posted about an app for your phone called Life 360. She said, "It not only tells me where sexual predators live, but what they look like and I can notify my family of my where abouts or if I am in danger. It is a pretty cool app!" I just downloaded it. Better safe than sorry!

  5. Oh wow that is creepy. And at/near a baseball field where there are kids, possibly running around without close supervision before/after games... Glad to hear you and your friend are ok. It's hard but I think if anything seems out of the ordinary you should trust your instincts rather than waiting for something to happen. I was almost bike-jacked on a trail last year when a lady started asked questions about my bike. When I stopped, she stood right in front of me, and out of the corner of my eye I noticed a guy walking towards the back of my bike. I bolted out of there as fast as I could! At the time I felt rude, but afterwards I realized that, if my instincts were right, I had just a few seconds before they would have grabbed me and my bike. Don't take chances!

    1. Wow! That is really scary! Good for you for figuring it out. It's funny how we figure it out and then later it seems very clear. I won't take chances!!

  6. That's definitely creepy! It's still not too late to call the police even today. A buddy of mine and I were running on some trails when we saw some whacked out guy was yelling and cursing about the police and park rangers and as we went by him he turned around and started following after us yelling and cursing louder. It was enough that it made us run on the road on the way back instead of the trail. The guy's body was found a couple weeks later in a tent off the trail- OD'd. You neven know what/ who you'll run into on the trail! I really need to get a small pepper spray or something. We have a whole trail system around us (Reading, PA area) that is awesome but avoid because of so many attacks on those trails. Reading, unfortunately, ranks at or near the top of most violent cities in the country year after year (as well as poorest and most obese...).

    1. You are right. I did call the non-emergency number yesterday because after writing this and thinking about it, I decided it was something I had to do. Someone else told me that that man is on the trail every single day. I will look for him and call the police next time I see him. Thanks.
