MUST HAVE: Gear in the New Year! #UAWomen Prize Pack Giveaway

The new year has begun, and I have started my training. I am participating in a half marathon in March.  That means cold runs outside. Yes, I live in Florida, and I know it's not COLD like some of you deal with, but it is still cold out. I need the right gear to keep me warm. You can imagine my surprise when I got a package from Under Armour to use for my review and giveaway.  It was INCREDIBLE! They were so generous to us!

This giveaway includes women's coffee run gloves, an eclipse StudioLux sports bra, black pants, a head wrap AND Speed Form shoes... This is a HUGE giveaway! Approximately a $250 prize! And this stuff is the best.

I love the way this gear washes up! Not only to I look good while I am running, but I also feel good. The sweat wicking material keeps me dry and warm!

Under Armour is a brand the inspires and motivates! There are many featured athletes who represent Under Armour. Our (my son and my) favorite Under Armour athlete is Steph Curry.

Getting #FITwithASICS Have you seen these shoes?

Have you seen these shoes yet?

They are the lightest shoe I have worn recently. I cannot believe how light and cushiony they are. I literally feel like I am putting on a sock. It is like no other. It's truly a customized fit. When I am walking or working out, they are supportive and comfortable, and when I am just hanging around, I LOVE wearing them, even without socks! They are the BEST!
Check out the link:ASICS WEBSITE

I recently received these cool and fun shoes from Asics. The GEL-Fit Sanas are incredible shoes that can be worn to a barre class or to go shopping in the city. They are fashionable and versatile: this studio cushioned training shoe fits your foot like a glove. They are light and flexible with a customized fit. The Gel-Fit Sana adapts and supports your foot with the inner lining from the heel to the forefoot, while providing a barefoot-like sensation.
I really do love them. You need to check out their website and follow them on twitter and instagram. Check out these amazing colors too!

Looking good while you work out! Review and Giveaway!

We all have a t-shirt or tank that has some great saying on it that keeps us going right? I love my tank that says "Suck it up!" Reminds me of my favorite saying, "Suck it Up Buttercup!" Well, that is fine until that shirt is dirty and you still need motivation, or you are running and can't see the shirt.

I recently found Momentum Jewelry when my friend Kelly Gregorakis wrote about them. I thought that it was so cool that I could wear a bracelet while I was working out and use it as a sweat band if needed.

Momentum offers hand-crafted, workout-friendly jewelry for fitness-focused individuals. Featuring our innovative MOTIVATE WRAP™ bracelet (patent pending).

I love mine! How great is it to look down at my wrist when I am in the middle of a plank or looking up at during a chest press. I want to live every second of my life with passion, so that is the saying I chose.  Which one would you choose? You don't have to have it on a bracelet... you can wear it on your shoe, you can order a necklace, or even on your head. You need to head over to http://www.designsthatmoveyou.com/ and check it out.  And enter to win one of your own here:

#Win with ShowerPill and win a box of ShowerPill wipes!

Disclosure: ShowerPill gave me product to review and giveaway but all opinions are my own.

A couple years ago, I was introduced to a company called ShowerPill. First of all, I love the name. Wouldn't it be a time saver to take a magic pill that was a shower. (Even though I do enjoy a nice hot shower after a hard workout)  Although this product isn't a "pill," it is in fact a remedy. It's a great thing to have in your gym bag for a "runch" (running lunch) or a quick workout where you don't have time for a full shower.

The ShowerPill is "an antibacterial wipe for your body.  It is like wiping down with soap and water which leaves skin feeling clean, fresh and moisturized. One ShowerPill sport wipe cleans your entire body. It will save you time, decrease chance of skin infections, and keep you fresh and clean when a traditional shower is not possible.

-Extra thick like a washcloth

-Kills 99.99% of germs including Staph

-Aloe Vera & Vitamin E

-Quick dry solution, no sticky residue

-Light fresh scent

-Hypoallergenic & Gentle on Sensitive Skin

-Paraben & Alcohol FREE

Each individually wrapped towel fits conveniently into your gym bag.

Now you have a chance to win your own box of ShowerPill wipes... Tell me, what type of workout would you do that would need a ShowerPill? Don't forget to enter my other giveaways.

Knock out!® Smart Panties™ and other gear and $25 discount

See below for $25 off discount!
A few months ago, I was contacted by Knock out!® Smart Panties™ on Twitter.  I had never heard of this company, and I only saw that they sold panties. My first thought was that I was a teacher and a mom and could never write a review about panties.  My son would die, and I wouldn't want my students to find this blog... That's when I found out that Knock out!® Smart Panties™ was a whole lot more than panties!!!  And they even have clothing for men! (My boyfriend has already ordered a white undershirt that is odor resistant and the underarms won't yellow... That is awesome!) I will admit that a good pair of panties is VERY important when it comes to my workouts. I need there to be some performance built in. And these have that little something for sweat and other leaks that may happen during workouts. We all know that we can't wear our Victoria Secret panties to the gym... those do not work! Knock out!® Smart Panties™ are soft and sexy, but they also have patented technology that protects from wetness and odor all day, everyday! "The liner has an all natural odor absorbing treatment and dual-action wicking fibers built right into the 100% cotton fabric. Thin, breathable and natural, you won't believe how much protection is packed into such a small area!"
Every garment is Made in the USA and that makes me happy!
I was also lucky enough to try out the Reversi-tee. This is a shirt that you can wear 2 different ways. I love it! I usually wear it with the V-neck, but I can also wear it with the scoop neck in the front. It's my favorite shirt! I wear it as often as possible!
They also sent me the Workout Warriors Anytime Pants. I LOVE these pants. They have a built in liner so you don't need to wear underwear. This Pant goes from PJ, to yoga, to loungewearThey are so comfy!
Honestly, this stuff is not cheap, but I have learned that quality is worth the price. These panties and clothes are worth it! Please go check it out!
You need to head over to knockoutpanties.com and sign up for their mailing list. When you do, you will qualify for their discount. Your discount is $25 off for the next three days! Don't delay.  In order to get the discount, in the "how did you hear about us" field, type "Blog" during check out. This will give you the discount. The discount code is:  MFJ2014 - It is a $25 off discount.  That's right $25!!!

So what are you going to buy??? Comment below! I am dying to know!

Meet Stephanie: Featured Blogger

Don't forget about my giveaways.

Name: Stephanie Laurendaeau

State: Calgary, AB, Canada

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Stephanie through the Mom Power Team. Stephanie is a true motivator. I am proud to call her a friend.

When and why did you start working out?
I have been active since I was a little girl…started with Ringette, then gymnastics. Once in Junior High I participated in Volleyball, Tai Kwon Do, Baseball, and my favorite was Basketball! As an adult, I attended kickboxing 5-6 days a week. I have been supplementing all these sports with weight lifting since I was 17. This past year, my focus has changed to solely weight lifting at the gym and HITT training for fitness competitions :)

What is your workout of choice?
My workout of choice right now is weight lifting for physique, this will probably change soon enough! I just love living an active, healthy lifestyle. Fitness competitions allow me to have very specific goals to aim for which I LOVE!

What is your favorite race, race distance, and WOD?
This past summer I did the Spartan Sprint and it was a lot of fun. A few years back I completed a triathlon relay (I did the run part) This is the extent of my experience with races though!

What is your most favorite piece of workout gear?
Definitely my Polar HRM!! :)

Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your workouts?
YES!! I have a very specific nutrition protocol for my workouts. I start my day off with a meat and nuts breakfast, and usually have a couple tsp’s of coconut oil before my workout for energy! During my workouts I consume BCAA’s and Glutamine, and well as Post workout. I will also have a Whey shake and a Banana after my workout to refuel! It’s one of my favorite meals! ;)

What is your favorite cheat food?
Ice cream ANY flavour, but it has to have lots of chocolate sauce!!! ;) AND SUSHI!!!!! We go to a great all you can eat sushi joint in Calgary at least a couple of times a month!! HAHA

What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Have specific goals, so that you have something to work toward! Tell friends and family what you are planning so that you are held accountable!!! And obviously find blogs and Facebook friends who have similar goals! Successful people surround themselves by other successful people who have their same interests! Work hard, but take it easy on yourself! It’s hard to change years and years of bad habits and you can’t change overnight!

What is your best workout memory?
Hitting that fitness stage for the first time!!! All my work had paid off! I felt beautiful…like Bambi on ice I was so scared, but it was amazing!!! By the end of the year, when I hit the stage for the third time, I felt like I was where I was supposed to be! No nerves and feeling confident! It’s amazing how much you can improve in such a small amount of time when you put your mind to it!

What is your biggest “FIT BUCKET LIST” item?
I want to earn my "Pro Card” , gain as much knowledge as I can, and share what I learn through my blog and fitness page on Facebook!

Tell us something that not many people know about you?
I wasn’t always healthy! Through my high school years I suffered from low self esteem which ending in a horrible eating disorder and compulsive exercising syndrome. I ended up in the hospital at 85 lbs, and took an awful long time to overcome the horrible disease! I am so happy that I have found balance, and take pride in competing and fuelling my workouts in a healthy way!

Meet Sarah Jane: Fit Betty and The Fit Cookie

Name: Sarah Jane Parker
State: Wyoming

When and why did you start working out?:
I have been working out off and on since I was a teenager, but I didn’t really get serious about it until I was in college and I wanted to start getting serious about my fitness and health. I joined a gym, started doing group fitness classes and got hooked!

What is your workout of choice?:
Metabolic conditioning and metabolic resistance training. It’s such a good mix of weight lifting, cardio, bodyweight strength training, and plyometrics, it’s challenging and never gets boring. I have started to love running lately, but I will always love weight lifting.

What is your favorite race, race distance, and WOD:
My favorite race was the Survivor Mud Run my husband and a friend ran together last year. It’s fun! We try to do races together and we are getting our 2 kids involved these days. So far, I have only run 5K’s. I was training for a half-marathon but got tendinitis so it’s going to be 5K’s for me for a while, haha! I don’t really do CrossFit, but I love lifting weights. I have done some WOD’s on my own, and so far my favorite has been a WOD mash-up I created from 2 separate CF WODS (I posted it here: http://fitbetty.com/mod-wod-workout/)

What is your most favorite piece of workout gear?:
My heart rate monitor! I am a big numbers person, so I like seeing where my numbers are at when I work out. My next favorite workout item would be my Altra zero drop shoes – I love them!

Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your workouts?:
I try not to follow any specific diet, but I guess it would be gluten-free clean eating with less grains. I have a lot of food allergies and sensitivities and IBS, so my diet fits around what I can tolerate. Since my diet is limited, I make sure I am take a multivitamin, calcium and magnesium, and probiotics. I get down every winter when there is less sunshine so B vitamins and vitamin D are really important for me.

What is your favorite cheat food?
Anything dessert, especially cookies and chocolate (if they are allergy friendly!)

What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Take things one at a time. It can be overwhelming thinking about all the things that need changed, so pick one thing each week to work on and focus on just that (like eating more veggies). If you feel you have made progress, move on to another aspect of your health the next week (like drinking more water). It establishes good habits at a reasonable pace so you don’t lose your sanity.

What is your best workout memory?
My favorite workout memory is of my husband and I running races together, especially the Survivor Mud Run. We had a blast and it’s special since we get to participate together. Any time I am enjoying fitness with my family is a good memory.

What is your biggest “FIT BUCKET LIST” item?
It’s hard to pinpoint just one! I would love to try stand-up paddle boarding, but sky diving and scuba diving are also on my list!

Tell us something that not many people know about you?

I was in a beauty pageant several years ago. People laughed at me for doing it (I’m a tomboy!), but it was something I wanted to try. Afterward I decided the pageant thing wasn’t for me, but I enjoy showing photos to my kids and it was overall a good experience. Looking back, I am so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to try something new.

Meet My Friend Kat!

This week's featured blogger is someone I met about a year ago. She and I connected before I knew any bloggers in person. My first impression of Kat was that this girl was beautiful. She is super fit and kind on the inside as well. I think I just assumed that she was one of those people who was just naturally fit. I was shocked to find out that Kat has worked really hard to get where she is and nothing comes easily. I think it was an eye opener for me in the fitness blogging world. All of us have a story. You need to check out Kat's. She is truly inspirational!

I almost forgot too... Kat is participating in the Marine Corp Marathon this weekend! Good Luck girl!

Name: Katrina P
State: Florida

When and why did you start working out?
Back in 2005 I started a fitness journey since I gained weight through college. However, I didn't do it the right way, hoping fat burners would do the trick. They did, but temporarily and with side effects. So, I began running in 2007 with 5ks and slowly built up to a half marathon that I did last year - 6 more after and now will do my first marathon at Marine Corps Marathon 10/27/13. Living a healthy and fit life helps you to ENJOY life that much more fully!

What is your workout of choice?
Running or High Intensity Interval Training Circuits/Tabata
What is your favorite race, race distance, and WOD?
My favorite race to date was the Disneyland Half marathon, race distance is the half marathon, and WOD - I attempted crossfit and didn't stick with it, I use various circuits when I strength train. My favorite exercise is the push press and the pushup knee-to-elbow

What is your most favorite piece of workout gear?
Good sneakers!

Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your workouts?
I eat a mixed ratio of carbs/fat/protein. I aim for .80 g of protein per lb I weigh. I also eat tons of veggies and avoid starches if I can. Through marathon training my body's craved more of those starches and I don't fight it. After training is over, I'm attempting the Whole 30!

What is your favorite cheat food?
Frozen yogurt

What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Start slow and don't compare yourself to anyone but yourself! Set attainable goals that you can achieve and focus on!
What is your best workout memory?
Sub 2 hour finish at my first half marathon and again at half marathon #5

What is your biggest “FIT BUCKET LIST”item?
Achieving the 6 half marathons in 6 months, To complete my first marathon, to compete in a figure competition one day!

Tell us something that not many people know about you?
I'm slightly OCD - order makes me happy ;)

Gingermantra: Featured Blogger and Win a Polar Heart Rate Monitor

I have this beautiful friend that I was lucky enough to meet in real life in June. Her name is Tammy and she runs a blog called Gingermantra. She is a feisty red head and a true, good-hearted woman that I am proud to call my friend. You have to meet her! I cannot wait to see her in November for the Women's Half Marathon in St. Pete, FL.

Meet Tammy Means from  Florida

When and why did you start working out?  I was a tomboy growing up.  I loved the outdoors and camping out (primitive camping) at a very young age.  It was the classic childhood of you don't come inside until it is dark or dinner is ready.  I spent my days running and on my bicycle.  After 3rd grade my Mom put me in a summer camp where I grew to love softball which I played through high school and in a few adult leagues after that.  I also dabbled in running in high school, but never fully committed to it as my sport of choice since I was also a volleyball player.  After turning 25 I found myself in the rut of my mid twenties on the slide to 30 and I had gotten out of shape, so I joined a gym and began working out and taking aerobics classes 6 days a week.  In between workouts I would hit the treadmill for 6 miles every day.  Then after turning 35 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and found myself right back at the threshold of needing to get back into better shape.  I began working out at a gym and then took several months of bootcamp classes and then a long time friend reunited me with my love of running I had found in my mid twenties and I have never looked back.
What is your workout of choice?  I'm a runner as my main sport of choice but I also cross-train with mountain biking with my husband and weight training in the gym.
What is your favorite race, race distance, or WOD?  I love the half marathon distance.
What is your most favorite piece of workout gear?  Oh for me, the runner, it's all about the shoes!  For many years I was a Nike girl, but last year I was introduced to Mizuno's line of running shoes and have trained and raced with them ever since.  When I run I have an odd foot plant which makes me supinate (land on the outsides of my heels instead of neutral or inward) and if I do not have the proper shoe or foot bed in my running shoe it makes my legs fatigue much faster.  I know a lot of people would say a certain brand of clothing or maybe their favorite piece of equipment, but for me it's all about the shoes!
Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your workouts?  I don't follow what society calls the traditional version of "diet" but I am a newbie vegetarian, about 2 months now.  I do not eat dairy at all and I only consume meat once a week if at all, but must know where it came from and how it was raised.  My requirement for all food I eat is that it is hormone free and pesticide free and I do not eat fast food or traditional processed food items.
What is your favorite cheat food?  Post race I love a great burger, grilled grass-fed beef with just mustard and ketchup and a side of sweet potato fries.  It's a race day tradition and sometimes I throw in french fries if sweet potato fries are not an option.
What advice would you give someone just starting out?  Never ever compare your beginning to someone else's middle.  Never concentrate on the number on the scale either, get full measurements and track your progress with body fat tests and other health assessments.  Getting healthy takes time and it never happens over night, even if we wish with all the wishes we could have that it would.  Getting on track to being a healthier version of you requires dedication and focus, but even more than that it requires that you identify triggers that you have.  Whether it be an emotional state of mind that you must overcome that keeps driving you to quit or if it is finding the right workout for you to see the results you want, you have to sometimes step outside the box and try different workouts and routines.  I'm a morning workout person.  I love to get my runs in at 5:30 am and on cross-training days, you will find my husband and I in the gym by 5:00 am.  We love to spend our Saturday mornings on the mountain bike trail for a quickie 7 or 10 mile ride to clear our heads and get away from the hustle and bustle of the week.  It's all about finding what works for you.
What is your biggest “FIT BUCKET LIST” item?  Oh I have so many, I don't think I could chose just one!  I would love to run the New York City Marathon and I would also love to run Chicago.  I have a list of things I want to accomplish before I turn 41 and one of the biggies is going sky diving (tandem of course), though I have yet to find anyone that would join me in this adventure.
Tell us something that not many people know about you?  When I was a little girl in 2nd grade I struggled with a learning disability.  It was something that I wished to overcome and knew that I could with hard work.  I decided to put all my focus on what it would take to develop past this issue and to make sure I always challenged myself to work harder and do better and be a better student.  I think a lot of what I pushed myself through with those insecurities and also as a little ginger child helped me get where I am today.  I believe to be successful you must work hard, inspire others, always be encouraging and above all remain humble.  "People may not remember your face but they will remember how you made them feel"
