5 Tips for the most fun at Color Me Rad and #Giveaway

disclosure: I was given 2 registrations for this race and one to giveaway to a reader. All opinions are my own.

Here we are before the race looking so bright and clean!
Last year, Bryce and I ran the Color Me Rad race with some of our  friends. It was a blast. I am so glad that Bryce's buddy Jackson and his family was able to come with us. It made the day ever better. You can read about it here: http://www.mindysfitnessjourney.com/2013/05/color-us-rad-at-color-me-rad-and.html

Our tips for success:
1. Dress in white! Wear as much white as possible. It will allow you to get as colorful as possible!
2. Get there early and stay late! Make a day of it. It's so much fun to enjoy the music and color before and after the race. Don't be in a hurry!
3. Bring your camera or phone but put it in a plastic baggie.  You will want to take tons of pictures and video. It's a blast.
4. Don't run for time. If you are a runner who only wants to PR, I would skip this race. It's not meant for that. It's a chance to get your mom, dad, kids, and neighbors out to have fun. There are walkers, runners, and even some who skip. It's just fun!
5. Bring a change of clothes and lots of towels. At the end of the race, you will be a mess. You will want to change or put some towels down in your car. The clean up is fun, but be prepared to have blue ear wax and snot... LOL... yep I said it! :)

Getting pumped up to start!
It really was amazing. I hope that they will join us again this year on May 24th.

We cannot wait til this years. We will be running this race on May 24th in Tampa. There are many other places where this is run. You can win an entry to run this race in your city in the rafflecopter below.

If you don't win, you can save 20% on your registration right now! The code RAD4MINDY2014 will get you 20% off!

A Day Vacation: Stay-cation at The TradeWinds Resort in St. Petersburg

A few of the Tampa Bay Bloggers were invited to spend the day at The TradeWinds Island Grand Resort – a beachfront resort located directly on the Gulf of Mexico on St. Pete Beach, just 30 minutes from Tampa in Florida. I was very excited to be one of the bloggers chosen. It meant I got to take my son, Bryce to spend an entire day participating in all of the events that The TradeWinds has to offer.
I have grown up in St. Pete and spent many days on St. Pete Beach. I have seen the slide set up and heard about all the fun, but I didn't realize that it would be so easy and that The TradeWinds are so accommodating to all of their patrons. Now that I have spent the day there, we will definitely be back! What fun!
When we arrived, we were greeted by a fellow blogger, Katie, in the lobby. She was our point person. We were given a swag bag with a beautiful TradeWinds towel, Beaker, the TradeWinds mascot, a drink coozie, and a thumb drive. What a great start! We were directed to our Hospitality Suite that was donated by GoGo SqueeZ! What a relief to be able to go into the room to cool off with a delicious GoGo SqueeZ! Some of the kids put them into the freezer, and I have to say that it was probably the most refreshing treat after lunch.
We dropped our stuff off in the suite and Bryce couldn't wait to go on The Trippo which is the giant slide behind the resort. We stopped off to get our cabanas though. That wasn't the best move since we never sat the entire day :) Too much fun to be had.
Then Bryce hit The Trippo! I was waiting at the bottom for him with my camera, but the first time he went down the side slide and I missed him. He ran around and got right back in line. He was so fast, I almost missed him. Then he talked me into going too. Holy cow! It was so fast! I loved it!
We really had a great time on the slide. We had a bracelet pass that let us go on as many times as we wanted. I snuck away to go over to the Adventure Center to get our passes for Splash Island.

We had no idea what Splash Island was, but we couldn't wait to get out there and try it. We got tickets to the 11:00 time, which was perfect because lunch was at noon. I was relieved to see that all of the participants were fitted with life vests before they went out to the water. Being a teacher and a mom, I get really stressed out when children swim. I can't relax. This certainly helped! We had a blast! Bryce wanted me to do EVERYTHING with him which made me a very happy mommy! There is something about your child wanting to share every moment of fun with you! Thank you TradeWinds!

We then had a great BBQ lunch provided by the resort. Before I could even finish, Bryce was ready to go find the paddle boats. He and Ronin (Jenny Metamorfit's son) ran to the paddle boats with me trailing behind. They got on their boat and started paddling. It was not as easy for me. I think I should have ridden with them. They were masters. They left me in the dust, but I ran back into them when they came back to the start.

This smile says it all! #blessed
Our next plan was paddle boarding. We had passes for 2:15. It was 1:30, so we had some time to kill. We heard that they were doing pool games, so we headed towards the pool. I did participate in the adult swimming race, but sadly,  I stunk! LOL... I think I may have embarrassed my son. Jenny Metamorfit was the winning female! Yay for her.

Bryce and I headed out to paddle board! That was fun but much harder than paddling at Crystal River. The waves made it really tough to get started. We had a blast though. It was getting late, and we were wrapping things up when Bryce realized that we hadn't bungee jumped yet. He ran to the line and waited. Bryce was so awesome jumping! I loved watching his excitement! I grabbed a video of him flipping! So cool!

Have you ever been to The TradeWinds? Which of these things sounds like something you would like to try?

Don't forget my MostFit giveaway is going on right now! Click here to enter!

Disclosure: The TradeWinds Resort did not compensate me for this post. They did offer the services, but all opinions are my own.

Jumping with friends at AirHeads!

Want to keep your kids moving and away from the TV? My son loves going to AirHeads Trampoline Arena! You can find them in Tampa and Largo, Florida. There is so much to do there. Last week I took my son and my nephew. We got there early, and it was great. There were barely any people there at opening, and that allowed the boys to play any video game they wanted in the arcade without having to wait. Then they went into the trampoline area and did some serious jumping. They worked on their flips, shot basketballs, climbed the walls and even played dodgeball!

It was a lot of fun. My nephew is 13 and had a blast. He is not the most daring kid, but he did enjoy jumping and climbing walls. At one point I got concerned for my safety because I think they planned on hitting me with the balls during dodgeball.

Bryce, my 9 year old,  told me that they couldn't leave until he mastered the flip. In this picture you can see that he ALMOST had it but fell back. I told him that this was good enough.

We are excited to be heading back to AirHeads soon for a play date with a group of friends! AirHeads also has fitness classes. I have not tried them yet, but many friends have and rave about the workout they got!

How do you keep your kids active in the summer and on weekend?

Disclosure: The AirHeads tickets were provided by AirHeads but all opinions are my own.

Yoga at the Trop and some Rays Baseball!

Rays Baseball

What could be better than spending a Sunday afternoon at a Rays baseball game?

How about starting that day doing yoga on the field before the game begins on your very own Rays yoga mat?
Anyone who knows me understands that I have a serious love for the hometown boys, the Tampa Bay Rays. My son and I attend as many games as possible every season. We have been to quite a few this year already. When the Rays contacted me asking me to help promote Yoga Day at the Trop, I was very happy to oblige.

What is Yoga at the Trop?
It's a chance to do a yoga class with a certified instructor on the same field that the Rays will play the White Sox on just a couple of hours later.

This is so perfect because I decided after doing my first yoga class in a year or so the other day,  that I need to add yoga to my routine. I really struggle with the flexibility. I know that I need to get stretching and work on the core moves that yoga offers. It's a great mix for runners as well. It will be so cool to stretch and do these exercises on the same field where our boys will later, hopefully get a big win!

My son Bryce will be joining me. He is a little nervous about yoga. He thought it was a "girly" sport. I explained how many professional athletes are seeing the benefits of the practice as well. He is now looking forward to joining me! I think he also may really want the Rays yoga mat!

So the song Take me Out to the Ball Game now takes on a whole new meaning! What will you do on Sunday, July 7th?
Rays baseballYou should join me at Tropicana Field and experience a yoga class on field before the Rays take on the Chicago White Sox. Laura Conley, a local instructor will be teaching the one hour long class. It starts promptly at 10am.
You don't have to be a great yoga student. Beginners are welcome! (Actually, if you are beginner, you can join me... I am too!)
Anyone who purchases a ticket to this special event will receive a seat in the Lower Reserved section for the 1:40 pm game and a Rays yoga mat for just $35! ($65 value) Make sure you grab your Rays yoga mat at the Rays Redemption Center before you go onto the field to use for the class!
Sign up here: http://mlb.mlb.com/tb/ticketing/groups/group.jsp?loc=yoga. Password is yoga1. The deadline to order tickets is July 5, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Please ignore the deadline listed. You can also call this number 727-825-3209 and speak to an events representative to register or ask any questions you may have.

Sunday is also Family Fun Day at the Trop! There is a giveaway for kids 14 and under. This week the Rays are giving away a Super Zo Utility Belt. Bryce is very excited about this!
You can read more about Family Fun Day here: http://tampabay.rays.mlb.com/tb/ticketing/family_fun_days.jsp

Keeping Family involved in Fitness: Target Giveaway #c9attarget

C9 at Target
How lucky are we? Target has offered to give us a $25 gift card. You can use it to purchase some of their awesome C9 by Champion clothing... They want to know how you are keeping your entire family fit.

This year I decided that my goal would be that I would participate in fitness events with my son. I started this fitness journey last year and I did a lot of races. I talked my son into running the mile race at two of them, and he loved it.

I was fortunate that a very special person surprised me and paid my way into the Rock n Roll mini marathon (5K) in Feb. As I was driving to the expo to pick up my packet, I asked Bryce (my 9 year old son) if he wanted to run the race with me. You have to love his honesty...He said, "Do I have to stay with you the whole time or can I run at my own speed?"  He's faster than I am. I told him he could GO! I was blessed with a gift from a friend, so I used the money I would have spent on me for him. It was the beginning of a really great new lifestyle for us.
When I first began this journey, my most favorite thing to do was flip a big tire... it still is btw... If you haven't seen my logo, I am a tire flipper. I love flipping tires. When I would tell Bryce about it, he wasn't impressed until I had him try to flip the tire. He was hooked. He couldn't do it but he thought I was a tough chick. Well, we loved it so much that we (my son and I) headed over to our local tire store and got our own tires to have at home. We haven't used them a lot, but we have had some fun with them. Not only do we flip them, but we also jump on them like they are plyo boxes. I am still looking for a BIG tractor tire, but for now we have 3 different sizes.

Since then we have run quite a few races and have some others headed our way too. I have run some races without him, but I certainly don't like it as much. He makes fitness fun!

We ran a Mother's Day run! He beat me by almost 10 minutes!!!

He loves to go on walks with me and sometimes we have to stop and enjoy the nature around us!

We ran for Boston... It actually turned out to be a walk, but we talked and bonded like we hadn't before. It was really special and nice because I had been glued to the TV and Twitter all day....

Then there is the fun of Color Me Rad. We had a blast getting colorful and laughing together!

Adding Fitness into your family life is the best. Get your kids outdoors and away from the video games for a bit! It's good for all of us. Bryce often asks me if we can go for a walk or a run. And usually it's when I am being lazy, so it's a good motivator!
I am usually wearing my C9 by Champion Clothes from Target while I am exercising with my family!
What does your family do together to stay fit? Check out #C9atTarget on Twitter and Instagram.

Color Me RAD!

Time to be colorful... AGAIN!
Who doesn't love a Color Run!

I am so excited to tell you that I will be running the Color Me Rad run on May 25th in Tampa.  As you know, Bryce (my son) and I did the Color Run in December. This was one of the best days that we have had. While I was slow, and Bryce wanted to go faster, it was a blast! We had color everywhere, and we loved it.

On May 25 (the day before my birthday) Bryce and I will run the Color Me Rad race.
This photo is courtesy of Color Me Rad.

This is my kind of family fun! It's a great run to get all of your family involved. Bryce and I are trying to get my mom to join us too!

Who wants to join us?
Check out Color Me Rad's facebook page for updates or register here. I haven't registered yet, but when I do, I will let you know what time.

Question for you: Have you done a run that gets you colorful? Tell me about it below!

disclosure: Color Me Rad has offered me a free registration to blog about this. All opinions are my own.
