Momentum: Designs that Move You

Sunday

12 Days of #Christmas #Giveaway! #win

Disclosure: Polar gave me a Polar Loop to give away, but all of my opinions are my own.

Yay!!! It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Yes, I mean it's holiday time, but even better than that, it's time for GIVEAWAYS!!!

The first giveaway for this year is a Polar Loop!!!
I know that everyone is talking about getting an activity tracker these days and I agree that is it a must-have for this holiday season. But which one should you get? Well, it's obvious! Why not get one from the best in the business. Polar has been a leading developer of Heart Rate monitors for years.

The design is cool and now comes in colors other than black. (I have a black one, and now I am going to have top shop for a blue or black currant) I am loving the new colors! Sleek, sexy and stylish!!! My giveaway will be for a black currant loop.

How does it make you move? It tracks every step you make... it tracks your activity... and it tells you how many calories you burn. A unique feature that the Polar Loop has is that it will sync with a bluetooth unit and strap. Now you can have your daily activity and your heart rate during a workout all in one device! Too awesome! My son, my boyfriend and I all have one. We have had to go for late night walks in order to meet our daily goals, and doing it together certainly makes it more fun.  It is really simple to set up, and it charges by connected to a computer or an outlet. It will also sync to your smart phone.  One thing that I really love is seeing how I am sleeping. I know that sleep is an area where I need help, and this tracker keeps me aware of how much sleep I am getting a night and what type of sleep I am getting.
So, it's time... Enter for a chance to win your very own Polar Loop (Black currant)

And tell me... What activities do you do to keep active during the holidays?

Meet My Friend Kat!

This week's featured blogger is someone I met about a year ago. She and I connected before I knew any bloggers in person. My first impression of Kat was that this girl was beautiful. She is super fit and kind on the inside as well. I think I just assumed that she was one of those people who was just naturally fit. I was shocked to find out that Kat has worked really hard to get where she is and nothing comes easily. I think it was an eye opener for me in the fitness blogging world. All of us have a story. You need to check out Kat's. She is truly inspirational!

I almost forgot too... Kat is participating in the Marine Corp Marathon this weekend! Good Luck girl!

Name: Katrina P
State: Florida

When and why did you start working out?
Back in 2005 I started a fitness journey since I gained weight through college. However, I didn't do it the right way, hoping fat burners would do the trick. They did, but temporarily and with side effects. So, I began running in 2007 with 5ks and slowly built up to a half marathon that I did last year - 6 more after and now will do my first marathon at Marine Corps Marathon 10/27/13. Living a healthy and fit life helps you to ENJOY life that much more fully!

What is your workout of choice?
Running or High Intensity Interval Training Circuits/Tabata
What is your favorite race, race distance, and WOD?
My favorite race to date was the Disneyland Half marathon, race distance is the half marathon, and WOD - I attempted crossfit and didn't stick with it, I use various circuits when I strength train. My favorite exercise is the push press and the pushup knee-to-elbow

What is your most favorite piece of workout gear?
Good sneakers!

Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your workouts?
I eat a mixed ratio of carbs/fat/protein. I aim for .80 g of protein per lb I weigh. I also eat tons of veggies and avoid starches if I can. Through marathon training my body's craved more of those starches and I don't fight it. After training is over, I'm attempting the Whole 30!

What is your favorite cheat food?
Frozen yogurt

What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Start slow and don't compare yourself to anyone but yourself! Set attainable goals that you can achieve and focus on!
What is your best workout memory?
Sub 2 hour finish at my first half marathon and again at half marathon #5

What is your biggest “FIT BUCKET LIST”item?
Achieving the 6 half marathons in 6 months, To complete my first marathon, to compete in a figure competition one day!

Tell us something that not many people know about you?
I'm slightly OCD - order makes me happy ;)

Gingermantra: Featured Blogger and Win a Polar Heart Rate Monitor

I have this beautiful friend that I was lucky enough to meet in real life in June. Her name is Tammy and she runs a blog called Gingermantra. She is a feisty red head and a true, good-hearted woman that I am proud to call my friend. You have to meet her! I cannot wait to see her in November for the Women's Half Marathon in St. Pete, FL.

Meet Tammy Means from  Florida

When and why did you start working out?  I was a tomboy growing up.  I loved the outdoors and camping out (primitive camping) at a very young age.  It was the classic childhood of you don't come inside until it is dark or dinner is ready.  I spent my days running and on my bicycle.  After 3rd grade my Mom put me in a summer camp where I grew to love softball which I played through high school and in a few adult leagues after that.  I also dabbled in running in high school, but never fully committed to it as my sport of choice since I was also a volleyball player.  After turning 25 I found myself in the rut of my mid twenties on the slide to 30 and I had gotten out of shape, so I joined a gym and began working out and taking aerobics classes 6 days a week.  In between workouts I would hit the treadmill for 6 miles every day.  Then after turning 35 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and found myself right back at the threshold of needing to get back into better shape.  I began working out at a gym and then took several months of bootcamp classes and then a long time friend reunited me with my love of running I had found in my mid twenties and I have never looked back.
What is your workout of choice?  I'm a runner as my main sport of choice but I also cross-train with mountain biking with my husband and weight training in the gym.
What is your favorite race, race distance, or WOD?  I love the half marathon distance.
What is your most favorite piece of workout gear?  Oh for me, the runner, it's all about the shoes!  For many years I was a Nike girl, but last year I was introduced to Mizuno's line of running shoes and have trained and raced with them ever since.  When I run I have an odd foot plant which makes me supinate (land on the outsides of my heels instead of neutral or inward) and if I do not have the proper shoe or foot bed in my running shoe it makes my legs fatigue much faster.  I know a lot of people would say a certain brand of clothing or maybe their favorite piece of equipment, but for me it's all about the shoes!
Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your workouts?  I don't follow what society calls the traditional version of "diet" but I am a newbie vegetarian, about 2 months now.  I do not eat dairy at all and I only consume meat once a week if at all, but must know where it came from and how it was raised.  My requirement for all food I eat is that it is hormone free and pesticide free and I do not eat fast food or traditional processed food items.
What is your favorite cheat food?  Post race I love a great burger, grilled grass-fed beef with just mustard and ketchup and a side of sweet potato fries.  It's a race day tradition and sometimes I throw in french fries if sweet potato fries are not an option.
What advice would you give someone just starting out?  Never ever compare your beginning to someone else's middle.  Never concentrate on the number on the scale either, get full measurements and track your progress with body fat tests and other health assessments.  Getting healthy takes time and it never happens over night, even if we wish with all the wishes we could have that it would.  Getting on track to being a healthier version of you requires dedication and focus, but even more than that it requires that you identify triggers that you have.  Whether it be an emotional state of mind that you must overcome that keeps driving you to quit or if it is finding the right workout for you to see the results you want, you have to sometimes step outside the box and try different workouts and routines.  I'm a morning workout person.  I love to get my runs in at 5:30 am and on cross-training days, you will find my husband and I in the gym by 5:00 am.  We love to spend our Saturday mornings on the mountain bike trail for a quickie 7 or 10 mile ride to clear our heads and get away from the hustle and bustle of the week.  It's all about finding what works for you.
What is your biggest “FIT BUCKET LIST” item?  Oh I have so many, I don't think I could chose just one!  I would love to run the New York City Marathon and I would also love to run Chicago.  I have a list of things I want to accomplish before I turn 41 and one of the biggies is going sky diving (tandem of course), though I have yet to find anyone that would join me in this adventure.
Tell us something that not many people know about you?  When I was a little girl in 2nd grade I struggled with a learning disability.  It was something that I wished to overcome and knew that I could with hard work.  I decided to put all my focus on what it would take to develop past this issue and to make sure I always challenged myself to work harder and do better and be a better student.  I think a lot of what I pushed myself through with those insecurities and also as a little ginger child helped me get where I am today.  I believe to be successful you must work hard, inspire others, always be encouraging and above all remain humble.  "People may not remember your face but they will remember how you made them feel"

The Great Mother's Day Race recap and Father's Day Race is Next! Family Fitness Fun!

The Great Mother's Day Race Recap and the Fun of Family Fitness!

This past weekend, I celebrated Mother's Day in the most awesomest way imaginable. I ran a 5K with my best buddy and the boy who gave me the best title I have ever had. I was so lucky to have been asked to be a blogger for The Great Mother's Day Race. Bryce was very excited to be running his second race of the year.

He told me that he really wanted to stay with me this time, but as soon as the gun went off, he was gone! He is so much faster than I am. I really wanted to get myself back to my speed when I was in the heart of training for my half marathon, but I am still about 5 minutes slower. Grrr! I am planning on seeing a big difference as I continue my crossfit journey.

The course was really pretty. Al Lopez Park has some pretty scenery. There was one leg of the race where we were near the street, but I like that too... It's nice when people honk their horns at you... I assume they are cheering for me and only me!

As I got to the last mile, I saw the cutest little blonde head bopping up and down in front of me. I knew it was Ronin, my friend Jenny's (who is also a blogger) son. Ronin took off fast with Bryce. I caught up with him, and we walked a bit and talked. He was quick to start running again though once he saw his mom and his guide dog, Matthew coming toward him. Jenny and I finished the race together, and it was pretty cool since we are both Polar Ambassadors.  I am sure you couldn't tell by our clothing :)

Bryce actually ended up finishing over 10 minutes ahead of me. Yep... he's a rock star! He was 8th in the 18 and under category and 80th overall. Not too shabby! He had a blast too!

It was an awesome way to spend Mother's Day. They also have The Great Father's Day Race coming up in July. I am hoping Bryce and I will have the opportunity to run that as well. It was a really special moment to see my son cheering for me at the finish line. Everyone needs to run a race with their children. It is something special when you share a love of fitness... and it's great to get them outside!!!

Time to show off! Giveaways Galore Continued!

And the giveaways keep coming!

Allied Medal Displays Giveaway!

Do you have a bunch of medals hanging around your house haphazardly? I have only been racing for a little over a year, but now that I have one half marathon under my belt and one to come this weekend, I decided that I needed a medal display. I really wanted it to be personal for me and my journey. I contacted Allied Medal Displays and asked them if they would be interested in being a part of this Giveaway Extravaganza that I am having celebrating all of you following my journey. Joe Exe immediately contacted me back and said he would love to give me one and allow me to give one away to you! Wow! I was so excited!!!

The best part about Allied Medal Displays is that they allowed me to do a custom order. So of course, I asked for Mindy's Fitness Journey. I couldn't decide which running picture to put on it.
Joe said that if I had a logo he could put it on there. Whoa! How cool is that! Do you see me flipping a tire? He made it seem really easy too! Wouldn't you love to create your own medal display! If you notice, I have room for a ton of medals! I know that I will be running lots of races and I will fill this up soon enough.

Allied Medal Displays are really a fantastic idea, before I discovered them I had my medals hanging on a random door knobs throughout the house. I wanted something more sophisticated to display my medals on and I wanted something that would really represent me! What do you think? Don't you love it!

You don't have to be a runner to order one of these. They make them for runners, triathletes, baseball, volleyball, dancers etc... one of the other great features about these displays is that they are super easy to hang up on your wall. They come with very easy to follow instructions as well as all of the necessary items (ie. screws, nails etc) needed to hang them.

Remember that the Polar Heart Rate Monitor Giveaway ends tonight at Midnight!!

As you know, I am not someone who is constantly talking about which protein powders I use. One night at a twitter chat with Foundation Nutrition and the Mom Power Team, I asked a simple question. I felt like it was a really dumb question, but I wanted to know. I wanted to know if someone like me, someone who isn't training for competitions or anything like that needs protein. Trevor from Foundation Nutrition was quick to answer that YES, I do. He told me that my body needs protein to recover from my workouts. I am sure it was a lot more detailed than that, but then he offered to send me some samples to try. When I finish my runs or workouts, I don't typically eat anything right away. I tried MyoFusion probiotic series, vanilla flavored. I was really impressed with the taste! It was really good. I just mixed it with water too. Nothing fancy because I don't do fancy. It was easy to drink and I did feel better. I even felt like I had more energy.

Giveaways Galore, StickitStrong, and the DietBet!!!

StickitStrong!

We have all driven behind the "yuppie" family that has their stick figures on the back window, and I will be honest with you, it's cute. But now there is something that takes that to a whole new level! I found the company StickitStrong who created stick figures for your windows that are WAY cooler!!! When I found these, I went crazy!!! I asked Bryce which one he wanted, and he choose the weight lifter. He has been flipping tires with me and really wants to try crossfit. I knew that I wanted the jump rope because I have been the queen of the jump rope lately.

I have struggled with the idea of putting the cute yuppie family on my car because I didn't want to advertise that I am a single mom. With StickitStrong, I knew I could put them on and it would be great since I chose the kid stickers. I love them.

How could I not! They are precious! There are a bunch to choose from! They have offered 3 (YES THREE!!!) decals for three of my readers!  So awesome! Enter below!

Giveaway Extravaganza has Begun and GNC Total Lean Review

Total Lean Shakes: Orange Cream or Orange Dream???

Do you remember Push-Up Pops from when you were little? Those were my favorite. Well, those and orange sherbert! If you liked those, you will love Total Lean Shakes Orange Cream flavor. I am pretty basic when it comes to eating. I don't do a lot of experimenting like I should, so the first time I tried this, I just the orange cream power with water.  I used my shaker and mixed it up. It was delicious!  I was pleasantly surprised.

Mornings are always the toughest for me with getting myself organized enough to eat a nutritious and healthy breakfast. I always blame it on time. With this, time wasn't an issue. It took 30 seconds to prepare, and I took it with me in the car. I had full intentions of trying to do something more creative the next day with it. Guess what, I didn't want to. I woke up looking forward to it! It didn't let me down. The next morning, I decided to put a half a scoop over my cottage cheese. Wow! That was even better than I could have imagined. It tasted like orange fluff. If you have ever had that, you know how good that is!

There is an entire Total Lean line of products that are available to help anyone at the beginning of their journey or anyone trying to maintain weight.
Total Lean Shakes:
  • Healthy meal replacement to support lean muscle tone and a healthy metabolism
  • 25 grams of high quality protein
  • 9 grams of fiber to help you feel fuller and satifised
  • Suitable for a low carb diet
For more information, you can read the Total Lean Blog.

***FitFluential GNC provided me with the product for review purposes only.  All opinions are my own.

Giveaway Extravaganza begins today!!!

Would you like to win an FT4 Polar Heart Rate Monitor?  If you are doing anything fitness related, your answer should be YES! When I began this journey last year, the first fitness tool I purchased for myself was a Polar FT4 in pink. I had no idea how this purchase would change my life. Polar has helped me cross the finish line at Tough Mudder and at my first half marathon. Polar has also helped me get my heart healthy. No, I am not where I want to be yet and some days are better than others, but when I slap my polar on my wrist and wrap that strap around me, I know that I am on the road to better living.

There are so many benefits to Polar. Some models even have a Polar Personal Trainer app that allows you to track your fitness and join in challenges with others. I hope that whoever wins this will cherish it like I did and do. I am a Polar Ambassador now, and I have many different wrist units, and I am always learning new things and new ways to better myself. Polar has donate this wrist unit  for this giveaway and I appreciate that. Please head over to their facebook page to tell them that Mindy's Fitness Journey sent you and thank you for the giveaway!
