Prepare to fight Goliath! #MadetoCrave Day 2

This isn't just a fight for me.  It feels like a battle... a war! And I have, so far, just been sitting off to the side watching the enemy take over. The saddest part of all of this is that the enemy isn't just helping me stay over weight, he is affecting other parts of my life too. No more! I am a Godly woman who is taking back my life!

I was always very athletic and healthy when I was younger.  I would say that it's been the last 12 years that I have been carrying around the "fat suit."  It's weird because I forget my size until I see a photo or get a glimpse in the mirror. And I will not lie, this weight has beaten me down.
I am no weight loss expert. I am reading Made to Crave and focusing on glorifying God in all that I do.  It's that simple. I am not trying to write a book or start a weight loss program.  Just talking about my struggles and hoping to connect with like-minded people who want to discuss!

This weight has allowed for some ugly voices in my head to tell me my worth is wrapped up in a number.  Yikes! I don't like that and don't want that anymore.

In her book, Made to Crave, Lysa TerKeurst says she told herself this over and over again.  I am going to hang it up right by my scale.  I need to remember it. "I am a Jesus girl who can step on the scale and see the numbers as an indication of how much my body weighs-not an indication of my worth."  Ok that preaches right there!!!  How many of us look to that scale for validation.  Or look at it with hate... I know I do.  I hate that stupid scale.   First step today: Weigh myself.  Y'all, seriously that sucked! It was a number I am not proud of and am not feeling led to share it with you, lol... and you don't have to share yours with me either! Ha!

So if I look at the scale in a different way, that is definitely the first step.  Second step for me is tracking my food.  Listen, I am not about to be sharing my food diary with anyone just yet, but I am ready to be accountable to me.  Tomorrow, I food journal. Can you do it too? I will be on the my fitness pal app. Search me and let's encourage each other!
You can follow me on myfitnesspal.com or on the app.  https://www.myfitnesspal.com/profile/mindylouwho2019

What was your first step today? What did you do to start or continue on this journey?

Getting the Pounds Off easily with the Body Fat Smart Scale #Giveaway

As most of you know, weight gain is a constant struggle. I fell off the wagon for a while and I let my weight creep back up to a new high for me. I am embarrassed and ashamed, but no more! 4 weeks ago I stepped into Weight Watchers and have begun my journey again!

Weight loss is never easy and we all hate that dreaded scale, until we see magic happen. Those numbers go down! And now it's fun to get on that scale to see my progress!

About a year ago, I was sent a Body Fat Smart Scale. I used it and I thought that I would review it as I lost weight. Well, that wasn't happening, so it began to collect dust. 4 weeks ago I wiped off that dust and decided to give it a try!

What makes the Body Fat Smart Scale unique is that it measures weight, calculates body fat, muscle mass and body water. There is a daily calorie feature which calculates maximum calorie intake needed to maintain weight. It uses the latest Bluetooth® technolgy to then transfer you data to your smart phone or tablet.

There is an app and you can trasmit data to your favorite fitness apps including Mapmyfitness, MyFitnessPal, or RunKeeper. The SmarTrack app allows you to share data via email, twitter and facebook.

The Smart Scale reinforces the belief that weight management is not a quick fix, rather a long term commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Regularly priced, this scale is $59.95, but right now it's on sale at Amazon for $49.95.

This scale has a sleek look, and definitely helped me get on track with my weightloss. It was so easy. I downloaded the app from Google Play and created an account. It easily connects to your scale. Once the scale pops up on your screen, you simply click on it.

You set your height, weight, activity level and weight preferences all from your phone. Now you are able to keep track of your weight (it even tracks it for you) and no more writing things down!

So if you are looking for an easy way to get your health under control, I highly recommend this scale. It's done great things for me!

@DiettoGo: saving me time and money and tastes great!

I have really enjoyed working with Diet-to-Go. A few years ago, I got to review my very first Diet-to-Go meal for Fitfluential. I loved this idea so much that I have continued to work with them for the past few years. The meals are getting better and better, and I loved them the first time I had them.

I am not a good cook, and a lot of my eating problems stem from grabbing food quickly. With Diet-to-Go, I don't have to grab unhealthy food. They have 3 different types of meals to choose from; low-carb, traditional, vegetarian. I typically choose low-carb.

I got three meals a day for 5 days, and it was wonderful! The breakfast meals were amazing. Eggs, bacon, spinach... mmm! Delish!

Seriously... who doesn't want a cooler full of meals delivered to your front door!

You can order your own meals today. DTGA126 will get you 25% off the first order of any meal plan.

You can follow Diet-to-Go here:

Diet-to-Go would like to invite you to explore some of the weight-loss tools they have available in their myDiettoGo forum. With myDiettoGo, you can manage your Diet-to-Go meal plan, track your meal and calorie intake, and engage with others in the myDiettogo Community. Looking good while you work out! Review and Giveaway!

We all have a t-shirt or tank that has some great saying on it that keeps us going right? I love my tank that says "Suck it up!" Reminds me of my favorite saying, "Suck it Up Buttercup!" Well, that is fine until that shirt is dirty and you still need motivation, or you are running and can't see the shirt.

I recently found Momentum Jewelry when my friend Kelly Gregorakis wrote about them. I thought that it was so cool that I could wear a bracelet while I was working out and use it as a sweat band if needed.

Momentum offers hand-crafted, workout-friendly jewelry for fitness-focused individuals. Featuring our innovative MOTIVATE WRAP™ bracelet (patent pending).

I love mine! How great is it to look down at my wrist when I am in the middle of a plank or looking up at during a chest press. I want to live every second of my life with passion, so that is the saying I chose.  Which one would you choose? You don't have to have it on a bracelet... you can wear it on your shoe, you can order a necklace, or even on your head. You need to head over to http://www.designsthatmoveyou.com/ and check it out.  And enter to win one of your own here:

#Atkins Breakfast on the Go!

~Follow Atkins for More Tips & Recipes
•Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AtkinsDiet
•Twitter: https://twitter.com/atkinsinsider
•Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/atkinsinsider/

I have been going Atkins strong for almost 2 months now. I have cheated some but over I am doing well and I am 16 lbs. down from where I started! That is progress. I just registered for my first half marathon in 2 years (ok, so I have only ever done one but still... pretty huge!)
I have been working on the Atkins campaign for Fitfluential and when I started I had no idea about the products out there. I didn't know that there were frozen meals, meal replacement bars and even meal replacement shakes. This month, I tried the breakfast meals for the first time.
If you are anything like me, breakfast is the hardest meal to get in. It doesn't matter what time I wake up, I am always rushing out the door at the last minute. It doesn't make sense. LOL... anyways, the idea of a breakfast sandwich that I can heat up and go is very enticing.
These breakfast sandwiches offer enough protein to keep me satisfied through the morning. Truthfully, it tasted good. I put some tabasco sauce on it to give it a little kick, and it was great. My son liked his too! (that is a plus because he ALWAYS wants to stop on the way to school for fast food) One thing is for certain, the ingredients in this vs. fast food win hands down!
Some people are going to want to point out the bad things in the ingredients, but I want to tell you that no matter what, we are doing better than we were. I don't have time to be organic, so please don't try to compare this. I am seeing results! This works!
If you are looking for ways to stop the cravings, here are some tips!
1. Stick with food that is high in protein, vitamins and fiber. Make sure it's low in sugar. Atkins Advantage bars are great. I always have one in my purse.
2. Drink water! Thirst often is mistaken for hunger. Stay hydrated! If you struggle with this, add fruit into your water. It makes you feel fancy too!
3. Greek yogurt is a great snack. You can spruce it up with some blueberries, granola, almonds, or raspberries. YUM!
4. When I have a sweet tooth, I have low fat cottage cheese with a little bit of sugar free Jell-O powder over it. DELISH! and it cures the sweet tooth!
What are your snacking secrets?

Getting into healthy eating #Atkins

No more beating myself up about it! The time is now!

Over the last few months, I have been trying to get myself back on track. I struggle with eating my emotions. I can have a great day and then right before bed, I blow it... I "reward" myself by eating something NOT healthy. My go-to foods are usually carbs... any kind of carbs. When Fitfluential chose me to try the Atkins program, I had to agree. I know that bad carbs are my enemy, and what I am doing is not working. Not only is it not working for me to lose weight, but recent blood work showed that my good cholesterol is low. The doctor told me that the way to fix that is to eat more protein and less carbs... so here I am.

What is the Atkins diet?
· The Atkins Diet is designed to flip the body's metabolic switch from burning carbs to burning fat. This is achieved by optimal protein intake, adequate healthy fat intake, and low carbohydrate consumption. As a result, hunger and cravings are reduced more quickly with a low carb approach than with a low calorie/ high carb diet.
So, here we go! I am ready to begin. I look forward to seeing what the results will bring. I deserve to feel better and feel better about myself.

What do you know about the Atkins diet? Have you ever tried it?
I will be trying the Atkins diet over the next few months, and I will be trying their protein shakes and snack bars. I will even try a week on a diet (maybe more) prepared by the lead Atkins dietician. Follow along to see how it works! I am really excited and committed to this program.

Turning Up the Heat with Thermo Heat

The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Thermo Heat.

I have been recovering from surgery for the past two weeks, and about a week ago, I started taking Thermo Heat Fat Burners. I have had some medical stuff going on since October, and my workouts have not been what I want or need them to be. I am ready to get back to the gym, but I don't have clearance for another 4 weeks. I decided adding walks and Thermo Heat would be a great jump start. And I was right!

The first thing I did when I received the product was read the label. I was happy to hear that I was supposed to start out slowly and take one capsule in the morning and one at lunch 30 min. before my meal. The first day, I didn't eat for about an hour after I took it, and I was a little worried that I was not going to like this. Luckily once I ate, I felt fine. I realized that I had better stick to following directions.

I definitely feel that it suppressed my appetite. I don't feel like eating between meals, and I have even had to make myself have a piece of fruit or cottage cheese for a snack. This is HUGE for me. Snacking a is big weakness.

I haven't found a huge increase in my heart rate just doing my day to day things, which is good, and I have had a lot of energy to get things done. I have a ton of things to do right now because I am in the process of moving and starting a new career. It is helping me get my butt moving!

It's also pushed me to go for walks with my family and our dog. It's so easy to get out of the habit of exercise. I am cleared for walking, so I need to get into the habit of doing that a lot now!

Color me Rad! Giveaway and race info!

disclosure: I was given 4 registrations for this race and two to giveaway to a reader. All opinions are my own.

Last year, Bryce and I ran the Color Me Rad race with some of our  friends. It was a blast. I am so glad that Bryce's buddy Jackson and his family was able to come with us. It made the day ever better. You can read about it here: http://www.mindysfitnessjourney.com/2013/05/color-us-rad-at-color-me-rad-and.html
Here we are before the race looking so bright and clean!
Our tips for success:
1. Dress in white! Wear as much white as possible. It will allow you to get as colorful as possible!
2. Get there early and stay late! Make a day of it. It's so much fun to enjoy the music and color before and after the race. Don't be in a hurry!
3. Bring your camera or phone but put it in a plastic baggie.  You will want to take tons of pictures and video. It's a blast.
4. Don't run for time. If you are a runner who only wants to PR, I would skip this race. It's not meant for that. It's a chance to get your mom, dad, kids, and neighbors out to have fun. There are walkers, runners, and even some who skip. It's just fun!
5. Bring a change of clothes and lots of towels. At the end of the race, you will be a mess. You will want to change or put some towels down in your car. The clean up is fun, but be prepared to have blue ear wax and snot... LOL... yep I said it! :)

Getting pumped up to start!
It really was amazing. I hope that they will join us again this year on May 24th.

We cannot wait til this year's. We will be running this race on May 24th in Tampa. There are many other places where this is run. You can win 2 entries to run this race in your city in the rafflecopter below.

If you don't win, you can save 20% on your registration right now! The code MindysFitnessJourney25
will get you 25% off! Seriously.... 25% off!!! That is a huge discount!!! Go sign up now!!! :)

Meet Deanna: F5 Lifestyle and Giveaway!

This amazing and inspirational lady is a friend of mine from the Mom Power Team. I adore her and she is ALWAYS lifting people up! I am lucky to call her my friend!

Deanna Wilson
Bowling Green, KY

I always did sports conditioning as a high school and college athlete. However, I started really working out as a young adult in my early 20's. I was married and working full time but was really desiring to get active again since retiring from college sports. I had not necessarily gained ALOT of weight but I was feeling out of shape. I was off an on with my commitment until after the birth of my first child when I had baby weight to lose. I became much more purposeful and committed to a regular workout program.

My work out of choice is EVERYTHING! I currently mix it up each week. From lifting weights to spinning to Pilate to HIIT to Core Strengthening to Cardio classes to Elliptical to Yoga to Sprinting! I lift about 5 days, cardio 3-4 days, yoga, pilates, and core strength every week.

I haven't done any races except a 5k one time! But I'd like to do an obstacle race some time. I really like free weights but by other favorite piece of equipment is the stability ball. But you said GEAR so then maybe my workout tunes from my phone and my arm band!

As far as dieting and nutrition, it has been quite a journey. I am currently clean eating and trying to stick to first generational foods but I am doing a 3 week experiment of no gluten, red meat, artificial sweeteners except STEVIA, and no dairy. But with this I am still eating PLENTY of calories! My favorite cheat food is ICE CREAM! Either and Chocolate Oreo Blast from Sonic, Mocha Chip Blizzard from DQ, or Mocha Chip Ice Cream by Starbuck's. I usually have a post workout smoothie and I take a natural pre-workout before I hit the gym.

Deanna working out with her son!
My favorite work out memory??? Working out with my son! He was training over the summer for football and one time he needed me to sit on the back of his legs while he did back extensions on the weight bench. I have a picture of it and sent it to his coaches sharing with them how MOMS make football players! LOL!

As an aerobics instructor and personal trainer I talk to folks that are just beginning their football journey. My best advice is BABY STEPS! If a person wants to make permanent change then they must incorporate it slowly into their lifestyle little by little. Before they know it they've transformed their lifestyle and lives!

As far as bucket list: it would be an obstacle race. I hope to hit one this June or fall.

Something ALOT of people don't know about me is that I used to sing! I recorded the cd and wrote the music and lyrics for every song. I used to do concerts and even sang the National Anthem for the California Angels several times.

Folks can follow me at: Blog: www.f5liferstyle.com

You need to go check her out! She is the real deal and sweet as anyone I know! xxoo Love you Deanna <3

I Ran For Meg! #megsmiles

Today I ran. I was tired, and I really didn't want to. I am just getting back into running after medical problems, and it's not easy to run. But today I ran... Why? Because I can! Because I am able to lace up and go outside whenever I want to.

Today, Meg Menzies didn't wake up and run. She couldn't because the last time she laced up was the LAST time she will ever lace up. A drunk driver took her life. She will never hug her 3 children again, and she will never hug her husband. I had to run today. Even though I didn't really want to. I had to for her. For her children. For her husband. For her memory.

I have never met Meg. We aren't neighbors. But she was a runner. And runners CARE about other runners.

I ran today because I had to. What if I lace up, and it's my last run? What if my last hug to Bryce is my last hug? I had to run today because there was NO other choice. I had to appreciate the pavement under my feet. I had to love the wind trying to stop me on my sprints. I had experience the pain and voice in my head telling me to stop. I had to LIVE! I had to do it for Meg. I had to do it for me.

My heart aches for Meg and her family. It aches for the man who killed her as well. He will never get over what he did. I know that those drinks weren't worth what happened. There is so much pain in this story.

Meg, your family is in my prayers. I hope that all of the runners out there appreciate their runs today and I hope everyone remembers not to drink and drive or even text and drive. Life is too precious for that!

My non-resolutions for 2014

My non-resolutions for 2014!

Yes, this year is my year. I am going to be 40 in May... oh my, yes, I said 40. I plan to be fabulous at 40! In order to be fabulous, I have some changes to make. I got derailed from some of my goals in 2013 and it's time to claim my life again. No more excuses!

Cook for myself 4-5 days a week:
I am a horrible planner, so I am not going to be making food prepping goals yet, but I will cook for my family 5 nights a week unless there is a school or sporting event that gets in the way of this.

Get out of Debt:
I will budget monthly. Each month I will have cash that I am allowed to spend on gas, groceries and fun. I will save money each month and use it to pay off debt. Any extra money from jobs will go in savings for an emergency.

Get to the Gym or get a run in 5 times a week:
There is really no excuse for not doing this. I will do this and I will post about those workouts to keep myself accountable.

What are you goals? Do you set goals or make resolutions??

Saturday

Thinking about goals for 2014

As I sit here at my brother's house on vacation, I am thinking about the successes and the setbacks from 2013. I am trying to figure out how I can stick to my goals in 2014 and not get off track. I am thinking about the areas where I have found success and the areas where I find weakness. It occured to me that I have to focus on fixing my weak areas. I am not ready to post about what worked and what didn't yet, but I am sure that there are some changes that WILL be made. That post will be done in the next couple of days.
It seems to me that if I focus on making small changes, I will see big differences. There is no magic pill. I have to WANT it and DO it! It's really easy to want it and sit on my butt and dream about it. I have good days and bad days, and the important thing is that the number of good days out-number the bad. There is no excuse for it being the other way around. No matter what goes wrong in life, there is no excuse for self sabotage.

Are you making New Year's Resolutions? Any tips on writing successful goals? I would love to quote you in my next blog post.

Featured Blogger: Susan... The Foodette

Happy Sunday! Meet Susan...
Name: Susan
State: TEXAS!

When and why did you start working out?
before
I played soccer and danced in middle/high school. In college I knew I was gaining weight, but I kept telling myself that it was only a little. I would visit my apartment gym maybe once a week and do light elliptical for 30 minutes. It was not enough. When I saw my graduation pictures I was mortified. I was so embarrassed to send them out. I started running with my dog (letting her pull me for as long as I could take it) and eventually started lifting weights and converted to a low carb/low calorie lifestyle. I started my blog to track and share my healthy meals. A year after I started, I had shed 20 pounds and run my first half marathon!
What is your workout of choice?
I like boot camp style workouts. I like a variety and a challenge!

after
What is your favorite race, race distance, and WOD?
Run for the Water is my favorite race here in Austin, it's a challenging 10miler for an amazing cause-- my favorite distance, however, is the 10k.
What is your most favorite piece of workout gear? My Moving Comfort Sports Bra!
Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your workouts?
higher protein, lower carb meals- no carbs at dinner. I try to eat tons of fruits and veggies every day!
What is your favorite cheat food?
ice cream, chocolate, creamy jalepeno dip and chips, oh was I supposed to list just one? I'm a food blogger!
What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Starting is the hardest part. Rome wasn't built in a day, but part of it was! Keep going!
What is your best workout memory?
Finishing my first half marathon. I cried. It hurt, but it felt SO GOOD.
What is your biggest “FIT BUCKET LIST” item?
FitBloggin 2014, & a Disney Princess Half Marathon!
Tell us something that not many people know about you?
M&M Cookie Pie.... you may have pinned it. Yea, that's my recipe. :-)

We can connect with you:
Instagram: https://instagram.com/thefoodette

I loved learning about you! You need to go to FitBloggin for sure! We had such a great time, and I learned so much. It's a must!  Thank you for sharing!
