Confession: Wow, am I a fat a**!

"Gosh, I am fat!" "OMG, why does my face look so fat in pictures?" "Wow, I am a fat ass!" "Ugh... I think it's the mirror" "Oh that picture makes me look fat!"  These are all things that I saw to myself on a daily basis. I call myself fat over and over again all day. It sucks, but you want to know what hurts so much more? It hurts to hear other people agree with me. And it hurts to know that it isn't the picture that makes me look fat, it's the fat that makes me look fat! Does anyone get really upset being called fat, and then continue eating something unhealthy... guilty!

For the majority of my life, I was not fat. I said I was fat when my pants didn't fit right or there was a little tiny roll over my bikini. I called myself fat all the time.  And I didn't feel it really... I didn't mean it really... I was one of those girls who said it to be reassured I wasn't.
Well, now I get reassured that I am. UGH! It sucks! I know that the majority of people in my life don't think my weight gain came on suddenly, but I do.  It seems that one day I started seeing pictures of a girl that I didn't recognize. I was in denial. I also made excuses (oh I am having health problems) Well, now my health is clear from the problems I was having but now I have replaced those problems with new ones. I gained weight over the last year. I don't recognize myself in the mirror or in pictures.

Well, there are two choices: Live with it or Fix it!
On Monday, I joined the YMCA and Weight Watchers.  I used to think that I was an athlete and I didn't need Weight Watchers because that was for people who don't know how to eat right. I have finally realized that I don't know how to eat right. I have a problem with food. I need to fix it. I need to feel good about myself.  I hope that these two choices will help me get to my goal. I want to lose 30 lbs in the next few months. Numbers are just numbers, so I just want to lose... if I don't get to 30, I will survive.  But the numbers will go down!!!

Here is my review of the Polar Loop on Amazon.com and I stand behind it completely! 
I did a lot of research on this product before I got it. I previously had a different activity tracker. The Polar LOOP does so much more than any of the other products I researched. Once it arrived, it didn't disappoint. I am impressed by the simplicity of the syncing. It displays a graph of how long I slept, how long I was active and even how long I sat.
I love that I can press the button to see how many steps I have taken, how many calories I have burned and my activity level. It also displays the time which is a great feature and very different from other trackers.
My burn increases. I do wear a FT60 so I plan on wearing them both together to compare data. But even without the H7 it is easy-
Determining the Loop size was so simple. I was a little nervous about setting it up, but there was no issue.
I am a teacher and all of my students think it looks super cool as well.
The Loop would be a great gift for anyone who wants to be more active or is already active. Polar is such a great company with THE best customer service!

Alica's story stands out to me. She is working so hard to achieve her goals. She, like me, is just starting Weight Watchers. I look forward to reading all about her successes! 


When and why did you start working out? 
I got tired of being over weight. I just don't have it all figured out but every day I workout is a day where I make a change in my body. 
What is your workout of choice? - I don't really have a preference. I tried Bikram Yoga (hot yoga) and never thought I would like it...I fell in love with it...its just not a winter activity (to much sweat and too cold outside). I have gotten into my running (which is really a jog) and have done several 5K's. I like trying new things. 

What is your favorite race, race distance, and WOD? 
My favorite race so far my first 5k I ever did. It was on 1/1/2013 and I was still slightly hungover from the New Years Eve Party. It was cold, it was hard but that day I proved to myself I could do 3.1 miles! 

Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your workouts?  
I try to take my shakeology everyday. It is an amazing shake and since I don't like getting up in the morning its an easy make and I can stay in bed longer. 

What is your favorite cheat food? 
Sweets. Anything sweets which is why I have gone on a sweet detox to help me to stop craving them so much. 

What advice would you give someone just starting out? 
Don't quit. Even if it doesn't look like you are making progress, and trust me I know that feeling, you are. It may be inches, weight, endurance, or a move you haven't been able to do before, but the change is there.

What is your best workout memory?  
I was doing Shaun T's Hip Hop Ab's for about a week, and my relatively fit hubby decides to join me. Half way in he is huffing and puffing while I am able to continue with all the exercises non stop. It was at that moment that I saw that sticking with something, even as short as a week, really does make a difference. 

What is your biggest “FIT BUCKET LIST” item? 
My biggest and greatest on my list is to wear for Halloween a Princess Leia Slave Costume (I am a huge Star Wars fan and have been for years). This is my ultimate Bucket Item!

Tell us something that not many people know about you? 
I don't like chocolate. Well my friends know this but not my readers. When I was younger I was I couldn't have dark chocolate or it would give me an allergic reaction. Nowadays I don't even like the taste of dark chocolate.

When and why did you start working out?
 I decided to take my roommate’s dog for a run.  Neither of us made it past the mailbox.  It was scary- Something I thought I would be able to do was so hard.  I knew I was overweight and unhappy with my body.  However, I never realized how out of shape I was until that moment and suddenly I knew I needed to do something about it.  If I didn’t I was sure I would continue to gain weight, stay out of shape, and just get unhealthier.  It was time for a change. 

What is your workout of choice? 
Distance running is my go to with a bit of spinning thrown in for cross training. 


What is your favorite race, race distance, and WOD?
Not sure about my favorite race yet - I need to try more out:)
My favorite distance is the half, but I love pushing myself to do full marathons.  
My favorite WOD would involve kettle bell swings - love them.   


What is your most favorite piece of workout gear?
My Mizuno Wave Creation shoes.  I am an addict!  They are my marathon go to.


Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your workouts?
I am slowly learning to eat healthy, I had bad binge eating issues when I was younger, but it is a process for sure. 

What is your favorite cheat food?
Fro-yo! 

What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Find what works for you.  Discovering an exercise you enjoy will help you stick to it. 

What is your best workout memory?
Finishing my first full marathon. 


What is your biggest “FIT BUCKET LIST” item?

1. How many dietbets have you done?  I have done one diet bet and plan on signing up to do more.

2. Why did you decide to do a dietbet?   I decided to do diet bet for the support.  I was able to see everyone else's success which made me want push myself harder.  I love the comments back and forth between those who were in the dietbet.

3. Have you won money?  I have not won any money but for

me it wasn't about that.  I just love when people get together who have the sane sort of goals in mind.

4. What is working for you in dietbet?  The support of everyone and those willing to help other people.

5. What is one thing that you struggle with in your healthy journey?  Ignoring Cravings. For me, going to the gym is easy but when you have had a bad habit of eating bad food most of your life then you switch to clean eating it can be difficult to break the bad habit.

6. What is your advice to someone who joins a dietbet? If there is anything else you would like to add, go for it. Thanks.  Have fun!  You are not alone in your journey to be healthier and don't be afraid to reach out to someone for help.  We are all here for the same reason - to be healthier and to lose weight.
My success - 
Recently I have lost almost 20lbs and 17 inches all over with a 5lb muscles gain. My secret? Working out 6 days a week, advocare, and a great clean diet. There have been a lot of temptations to deter from what I am doing, but I have managed to keep at it. I have a goal of being able to compete in a bikini body building competition by the end of the year/or next year.

A successful weight loss helper: The DietBet

As you all know, I have been running DietBets for the past few months! They have been extremely successful. This DietBet is still open for joining, and we would love to have you join. 1. How many DietBets have you done?
I have been doing DietBets since April and have squeezed in 7 so far.  The past 4 have been with Mindy's Fitness Journey and I love that she has the extra support on the Facebook group! (https://www.facebook.com/groups/546796248675207/)

2. Why did you decide to do a DietBet?
I heard about DietBet on a blog and was already on my weight loss journey and figured, "Hey if I'm going to lose weight anyways why not add a little incentive."  I needed accountability and support and knew this would be a great motivator.  I'm super frugal so that 25 dollars isn't worth that froyo or that donut so that definitely is a powerful motivator for me.  

3. Have you won money?
I have won 6 DietBets and I WILL win this 7th one too ;) its been between 40-50 dollars each time but I pay the $25 to get started.  I've stopped rewarding myself with food and instead my dietbet winnings are my reward.

4. What is working for you in DietBet?
The extra accountability and motivation really works for me and keeps me going strong!  I post my workouts, food and diet bet weigh ins on Facebook and I was so surprised to see how much support is out there, its absolutely incredible.  It was so scary to post that first thing but now it keeps me accountable and people notice if I don't post a sweaty workout pic.  

5.  What is one thing you struggle with in your healthy journey?
I struggle with getting and staying motivated and not backsliding in between bets.  I've lost 40 lbs since February and have  more to go.  Now that I'm starting to fit in cute clothes again, I've started getting comfortable so its a struggle to stay on track.  My goal isn't only weight loss and sometimes I forget that, so I really have to redefine my goals OFTEN to stay on track.

6. What is your advice to someone who has just joined a DietBet for the first time?  
Don't do it alone, at the very beginning of my journey I connected with an amazing fitness fanatic named Jen.  I didn't know her before I started but we committed to  check in everyday, msg'd sweaty pics, food pics, and motivation.  Being able to share your struggles and have someone who truly understands and who's been there is amazing.  She has become one of my greatest friends and virtual workout partners.  The great thing about diet bet is you are in a community of other people that are working toward the same goals as you.  Reach out and I think you'll be surprised what you get out of it.     

Have fun and make it a lifestyle, Between DietBets, I don't change anything, I still eat super clean and do my workouts. You'll be a lot happier if you don't have to start over every 30 days or so.  I see a lot of people on the message boards panicking in the last week doing unhealthy extreme stuff to get the weight off for the weigh in.  If you start off strong and finish stronger you'll be a ton more successful and you'll feel amazing and be proud of your accomplishment :)  Just try it and you'll be hooked!

Time to Jump on the Weight Loss Train!!!

It's Time to Jump on the Weight loss Train...

This train is leaving the station, friends... again! As we wrap this first DietBet for Mindy's Fitness Journey, that totaled $15,765, another one is beginning! The Dietbet that is almost over right now has a Total weight lost of 2,908 pounds and we still have a little under a week! It's time to jump on this train folks! How nice is it to lose weight and make money. What this video to see how easy it is! This is legit.  I have already done 3 Dietbets. Let me first tell you that I love to gamble, but I am THE WORST gambler in the history of the world. I would be better off skipping casinos and just flushing my money down the toilet. It's that bad!

But with the DietBet, I am in charge, and I WILL win! This can't even be considered gambling. I consider it an investment in myself.



Here is how it works:
1. Join my game: http://www.dietbet.com/games/14585
2. Two days before your games begins, you will be prompted to submit your official weigh in.  You will need a scale (preferably digital,) a camera or smart phone, and a full length mirror or someone who can take your picture. You will submit 2 photos.  One of you on a scale in "airport security attire" (I think that means they want you comfortable and appropriate... lol) and another of the scale's readout with your "secret" weigh in word. (you will do this same process when the bet ends. The secret word will be different.)  Your weight can be private, and NO ONE (not even me) sees your pictures. They WILL NOT be published.
3. Now all you need to do is lose 4% of your body weight.  So if you weigh 200 lbs, you only need to lose 8 lbs in 28 days... totally doable!!!

HOW WE PREVENT CHEATING:

We have a photo review process in which players submit proof of their initial and final weights to our team of Referees. We also have algorithms that detect unusual activity within a game or across games and use an auditing system where some players may be required to submit extra proof of their weight loss using: a Skype weigh-in with one of our Referees, a video weigh-in, or an in-person weigh-in at a location pre-approved by DietBet, such as a Walgreens or CVS clinic. If requested, you will have to submit further proof of your weight within 24 hours. Since weights fluctuate naturally, we allow up to 1% of your final weight as variance for your audited weigh-in only. This variance does not apply to the standard final weigh-in. Failure to comply will result in disqualification and forfeiture of your winnings and initial bet. You may also be banned from playing again and subject to other penalties.
